  Brief Statements based on the unit

  The main topic of this unit is art and literature, including paintings, films, drama, concert and novels, about which plenty of language materials and exercises are designed. At first the students are asked to talk about four famous paintings. Then, in order to improve students listening, ability, they will be asked to listen to three passages and tell the detailed information about them. The students will improve their speaking, ability in the activities appearing in Speaking. Next, Prereading, Reading and post reading are all about the famous novel and film of the world Harry Porter. By discussion and reading the text .the students will learn a lot about Harry Potter’s life, difficulty and overcome difficulty, as well as how to be happy and live a good life. At the same time, they will learn plenty of useful words and eXPressions. Language study includes exercises about word formation and Nonrestrictive Attribute Clause. Integrating skills is designed on purpose to train the students’ writing ability and skill. After learning the whole unit, the students will learn a lot in art and literature and improve their ability to listen, speak, read and write. At the end of the Unit, there is some advice on how to read a story. And the students will surely benefit from it.

  (2) It is + adj. + to do sth.

  2. Understand the following sentence pattern correctly:

  Where someone is born and what a person looks like is not as important as what he or she grows up to be.

  Teaching Methods:

  1. Questioning-and-answering activity to help the students to go through with the whole passage.

  2. Careful reading to find out the detailed information about the passage.

  3. Pair work or group work to make every student work in class.

  Step 1 Greetings

  Greet the whole class as usual.

  Step 2 Presentation

  T: Daniel Alan Radcliffe does. He was born in Fulham, England on 23 July, 1989.His nickname is Dan. He once played the part of young David in the film “David Copper field” in 1999. He also acted in the film “The Tailor of Panama” made in 2000.

  Step 3 Reading.

  Today we’ll read a passage about the film Harry Potter. First, Let’s have a discussion. Now work in groups of four and discuss the questions above the reading text. (teacher gives the students some time to have a discussion then asks some of them to give their opinion.)
