Step two: Pre-reading
Introduction: the questions are designed to get the ss to think about the cellphone as an example of inventions that have changed our way of life.
Instruction: first discuss the following questions
1) what did people do at night without electricity?
2) How did they like it?
3) What will you do if electricity is out one night?
Encourage answers and comments that help ss think about the way technology affects our life and thinking.
Step three: Reading life on the go
Introductions the reading discusses the increasing popularity of cellphones in Chinese society cellphones are everywhere and have positive and negative effects on our life.
Intruction:
1. ask the ss to read the first para. Quickly to get the main idea of the text.
2. ask the ss to do the following.
A. try to guess what the next paragraph will talk about .ask the ss what they think and why they think so. Compare different answers.
B. Try to guess what the whole text will talk about .
2) ask the ss to use the answers to write a simple outline of the text. Work in pairs or groups to write the outline.
3) Let the ss read the whole text. Ask them to compare their outline with the text and note any differences.
Step five: Post-reading
1) Discuss the questions in groups. Then report your answers
2) Questions 2 and 3 can be answered by skimming or scanning.
