Tian’anmen square is situated south of Tian’anmen gate,880 meters long from north to south and 500 meters wide from east to west, with a total of 44 hectares. It is the largest city center square in the world .

　　I will introduce the buildings in the square briefly to you. Tian’anmen tower situates in the north of the square .It was on this gate that our late Chairman Mao proclaimed to the whole world the founding of the PRC on October 1st1949.Since then, Tian’anmen has been the symbol of New China.

　　There is a river in front of the gate which is called Outer Golden River.Spanning over the river are seven arched stone bridges, the middle one is called Imperial Bridge, which is for the emperor and empress only.

　　In the middle of the square is the Monument of the People’s Heroes which is designed by Liang SiCheng .The monument consists of many pieces of granites and white marble are on the base ,on the front of which there is an engraved inscription in Chinese characters written by our late Chairman Mao “Eternal Glory to the People’s Heroes!”

　　The Great Hall of the People located on the west of the square is one of the 10 major buildings built in 1959.The National Museum is on the east. The Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum is on the south to commemorate our great leader Chairman Mao ZeDong.
