Today's Highlight in History:

1936: Lu Xun, pen name of Zhou Shuren, died on October 19 at the age of 55.He was considered the most influential Chinese writer of the 20th century and is seen as the founder of modern baihua or vernacular Chinese literature. His social thought, which substantially criticized traditional cultural values, was also highly influential in 20th century Chinese history, in particular, to the May Fourth Movement and the strains of thought it gave rise to, which in turn had a great impact on the Chinese communist movement and the rise of the People's Republic of China. He was also a noted translator and helped introduce Chinese to modern international literature.
1936年10月19日，鲁迅（原名周树人）逝世，享年55岁。他被认为是中国二十世纪最有影响力的作家，是中国现代白话文的开拓者。他的作品批判传统的封建思想，给二十世纪的中国带来很大的触动，特别是在五四运动时期，他的思想还对中国共产主义运动和新中国的崛起产生了深刻的影响。鲁迅还是著名的翻译家，把中国的文学介绍给世界。

 

1937:New Zealand nuclear physicist Ernest Rutherford died on October 19 at the age of 66. He was known as the "father" of nuclear physics, pioneered the orbital theory of the atom, notably in his discovery of rutherford scattering off the nucleus with the gold foil eXPeriment. He was awarded  Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1908.
1937年10月19日，新西兰核物理学家卢瑟福逝世，享年66岁。他被称为“核物理学之父”，是原子轨函数说的先驱，最著名的成就是利用金箔试验分离出了核子。1908年，他被授予诺贝尔化学奖。
